The work of artist Ben Pearce is in flux. Ravaged by time, shifting from one material to another, geological formations morph into parts of the body and back into landscapes. In Everything Remote Intermingles, Ben takes us on another journey to the familiar topography of the moon’s cratered surface. He obsessively inscribes it onto objects native to the home resulting in vaguely post-apocalyptic suggestions, where unperceivable interventions take place. The artist cites the phenomenon of hypnagogic hallucinations which can occur in the final moments before sleep. In this new body of work, time and space are reconfigured and elongated; form and volume are switched, the familiar becomes unfamiliar, the safe becomes treacherous.

The public are invited to attend an opening reception for Everything Remote Intermingles on Wednesday, February 22 from 5.30pm—7pm at 306 Eastbourne Street East, Hastings.

BEN PEARCE employs wood, stone, metal and found objects to explore notions of time and memory. Since graduating from Whanganui Quay School in 2003 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Majoring in Sculpture, he has exhibited regularly in New Zealand and Australia, including at City Gallery Wellington and The Suter Art Gallery in Nelson. Ben is currently based in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand.
